my day at the Hospital

We got here a little after 10AM - brother K got here about 5 minutes after us and about an hour later the doctor came by and we had our "family meeting" where he gave us the skinny on what is happening to hubby's mom. He made it sound pretty damn grim. (brother J conveniently missed the meeting - he had to work) And hubby and K pretty much agreed that their mom wouldn't want to be in this situation - kept alive by machines - it was her "worst nightmare"

So he essentially told us that she's not breathing on her own and we should seriously consider taking her off the ventilator cuz she won't have any quality of life - but that we could choose to keep her on the vent indefinitely cuz her vitals are strong. Her pneumonia is in check and the infection is disappedaring - as well as her blood pressure and heart rate were solid - but she just can't breathe on her own.

so after waiting for J all day I guess they're now saying that they have to take her off her sedation and wait for her to wake up before they can take her off the ventilator - which could take a couple days - which i don't get cuz the nurse told us earlier that they specifically use this sedative cuz it only takes about 15 - 20 minutes for people to wake up once they're removed from it (don't ask me what it is - my brain is much and I have no idea right now - the only thing keeping me alive is coffee and lots of it)

so i guess we're supposed to all go to dinner and discuss what's going on - i'll know more then - and then we have to work on getting their mom's finances etc in order (hubby's executor of her estate)

and for the record it's gonna be hell - i can already see it - cuz apparently she's been living at J's house for the past few months and paying something like $750 in RENT PLUS about half the utilities (which hubby said looks like it comes to around $1500/month) and altho i don't currently have proof, I'm pretty sure the other SIL (K's wife) has skimmed some off the top as well since she's in charge of the bills etc. (But that's just me starting a rumor more than anything)

and on a personal note it's been stressful but no scenes really. Other than J's wife trying to give me a hug when she showed up this morning and I refused cuz i have no desire to even pretend to be nice. I'm here for my husband and his mom in this trying time, no other reason. I'm sure even now they're pretty pissed that i'm sitting here on the puter instead of socializing - but i really don't have much to say.

anyway - visiting hours are almost over and we're heading to dinner to discuss what's going on.
