Are you ready for some football?!?!

Don't even get me started on the crappy game today. So anyway, remember the super secret blog project I was working on? Well I originally wanted it up before the beginning of regular season but got waylaid by all the Dally in the Alley plans and crafting (which according to hubby apparently I was in crazy crafty mode all week. I didn't think I was. I thought I was pretty regulated and calm) super secret blog project will be live by this weekend. I welcome input and feedback. As soon as I get it set up and have the first post (or first couple) I shall post it all over the place. Also ... if you are interested in helping with the super secret blog project in anyway, let me know! xoxox P.S. the Dally in the Alley was awesome! I actually made enough to cover the cost of the space plus supplies and had some left over. I still owe banshee for a couple things but we're gonna get that squared away soon. Itg definitely made me want to do the Wyandotte Street fair next year tho! I took a couple pictars and I'll upload them this week as well and share them. Next show should be in wyandotte in a couple weeks. Next Sunday is the bead show with da banshee where we shall try not to spend too much ^_^ And this is a long P.S. so I shoulda really made a seperate blog entry about the Dally and stuff but whatever.

so I asked for blog input earlier ....

and I got a couple responses. thanks! I think I'm sticking with blogger for my regular blog and wordpress for this new one. I like the fact that wordpress allows you to make pages within your blog, kinda like have a domain without so much work. I also like that you can set the index page. That makes it fun.

in case you didn't see it, I'm making a new blog footballforwomen which I'm really excited about. The draft inspired me this weekend to get off my butt and get that football teaching thing going that Gina and a couple others suggested to me last year. what better time than now.

So I'm going to set up a page for each team and I'm also working on learning how to edit my videos in windows movie maker (if anyone has another FREE suggestion that you like more I'm totally open to it) so I can use video to illustrate points as well.

I'm really excited about this! It looks like a corner of the market that isn't really being addressed online. I know there are a couple books about it but this would be kind of a real time thing! if only I had a laptop I could have live chats during games and stuff!

But I'm getting ahead of myself here. and I have until september to get a laptop. who knows!

I do have one question for anyone reading this tho.

Do you think the fact that I've labelled it "football for women" is in anyway alienating or condescending? I mean I'm a woman. I just thought it sounded coolest. (did I mention i made this site at like 2am lol)

anyway, i gotta get some laundry done. so please tell me what you think!!!

OH! FRABJOUS JOY!!!!

BRETT FAVRE IS RETIRING!!!!!!!

(link here with records and stuff blah blah blah)

I think today will become a holiday in our household! celebrated each year with a ceremonial burning of something green and gold with Favre's name on it and imbibing lots of wine and cheese.

Saturday & Sunday

had a yummy steak dinner @ the Rouge Park on Saturday with some trimmings. A nice break from turkey leftovers. Then it was a bday party and karaoke (with me working) which was fun. Except that I started at like 8PM and didn't end until after almost 1:30am. That's a long shift for karaoke. So I was hoarse and tired and my back hurt like crazy. But i'm making good money so I'm not complaining (too much). Joel even showed up for karaoke. Bobbie arrives in Chicago tomorrow night and we get to officially meet on Tuesday evening when they arrive by train.

Today was football sunday without the Lions. (or the Jets) so I watched New Orleans kick some azz (how bout them Saints?), watched Arizona lose to the Niners in OT (which keeps the Lions in the Wold card contention) and we're currently watching NE getting shoved around by Philly (which is good for my fantasy numbers cuz the guy I'm playing today has Brady and Moss) (and I know this is all gobldigook to most people who read this)

I'm also crocheting like a madwoman. I didn't reach my goal today of finishing an afghan I've been working on for about a week, but I should finish it tomorrow along with a couple other gifts. I'm trying to remember to take pics of everything but my real camera needs batteries and my cell phone camera sucks at getting colours right.

Heading up to the Box in a few. don't wanna. I took some allergy pills and I'm so tired I could go to sleep right now and not wake up until noon tomorrow. But it will do me good to get out of the house.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll have more of a brain to write more than basic life journal entries. I have so much stuff floating around in my head I need to get out.

oh! and it's entirely possible I have stopped at 18 days. I'm still gonna make plans to see someone about this, but if I have stopped it's not as urgent as it was before.

xoxox

Screw the BCS

That damned BCS crap.

I mean seriously. All I heard all weekend was the speculation on whether it would be the Florida Gators or the Michigan Wolverines going to the National Championship to play Ohio State. Should UofM get a 2nd chance to play OSU or should Florida be given a chance to prove themselves.

Now, I know I'm a Michigander. And that I grew up in the shadow of the University of Michigan. Hell, my high school colours were even blue and gold. So altho I'm not a big college football fan, I admit that I have an almost ingrained affinity for the Wolverines. That being said, this has very little to do with why I'm pissed that Florida is playing OSU for the national championship instead of Michigan.

If you look at the numbers using the computer program that figures out all these bowl standings, Florida and Michigan are on equal ground. They both had relatively tough schedules (altho UofM was a bit harder). They both lost 1 game (altho Michigan lost to the #1 ranked team and Florida lost to #11). Granted Florida is the SEC winner while UofM is #2 in the Big 10. But still...the numbers spit out by that computer program showed both teams with equal footing.

Which meant it came down to the human element. The element they had been trying to remove with the program in the first place. You know, back when it was all AP and coach decisions and the rankings were basically based on popularity. And the human element in this situation was extremely flawed imho.

Before the announcement was made last night I already knew it would be Florida and not UofM. Just by the way the guys were talking on ESPN, FOX, CBS, etc. Remarking that UofM had their chance playing OSU and maybe it was time to let Florida prove themselves. There was only 1 or 2 sportscasters/football commentators that spoke out saying that it should go by numbers and using them UofM was clearly the more deserving candidate. I applaud them. (Jimmy Johnson was one of them...I've always liked him...and as a former Gators coach he shoujld have been on the Florida bandwagon)

So it came as no surprise to hear that UofM would be going to the Rose Bowl instead of the National Championship and that Florida would be heading to Arizona to play OSU. Nevertheless I'm still pretty pissed.

Ultimately the whole BCS is bullshit. I know the national championship game was instituted to give equal light to those teams and colleges that might not get it otherwise. And prolly more for the bragging rights it gives. But I'd rather have it the way it was. Give me a Rose Bowl with the #1 teams from Big 10 and Pac 10. Give me an Orange Bowl with Big 8 participants. Call me a purist but instead of making this obviously controversial BCS bullshit add a couple more bowl games for those colleges that don't get to go to the Rose Bowl or Fiesta Bowl or whatever bowl. I honestly don't see the need for a national championship bowl in the first place. Give me the old fashioned rewards for playing well in your division.

Of course I'm not a football player or coach, I'm just a fan. What do I know.

Why I LIke Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving! It is my favorite holiday of the year. At our house Thanksgiving is all about the 4 "F"s ... food, family, friends and football. And the 1 "B" ... BEER!

It's the only holiday of the year without any major obligations. You don't have to buy gifts, don't have to go to church, don't have to do much but eat lots of turkey, drink lots of beer and pray that the Lions win.

I have alot of great Thanksgiving memories. When my Mama was alive and well we used to go over to her house for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a big event. The day before we'd go over and pull out her good china, which was stored in the bottom drawer in a hutch in the dining room, and unwrap it from the newspapers protecting it. Thanksgiving day we'd go over there early and help Mama get dinner ready. I remember her putting cloves in the ham. And it was the only time she allowed beer in her house because she needed it for the ham. Tecate. I remember one year she reached into the fridge for a coke and pulled out a Tecate instead.

She actually opened it and took a drink before she realized it wasn't soda and then tried to split it with me and my cousin...both of us underage I might add.

I always dreaded those Thanksgiving dinners....now I kinda miss them. In the beginning we all sat at the dining room table, but as our family got bigger they eventually designated the table in the kitchen as the "kid's table" I never got to sit there. As the oldest grandchild I always sat at the "adult table" ... usually squashed in next to the wall in the center so I couldn't get out until everyone else was done.

I remember Turkey, stuffing, ham (complete with cloves and beer basting), mashed potatoes and tamales. I'm sure we had other stuff, but that's what I remember. No Thanksgiving was complete without the tamales. The good ones. from Evie's Tamaleria down on Bagley in Detroit. My Mama would order them a couple weeks in advance to make sure we had them for the big day and we'd pick them up on Wednesday. It's something we still do. As do most Mexican families in the area. Just go down to Evie's the day before Thanksgiving and check out the line that usually goes around the corner.

We never watched football when I was younger. Dinner was later. besides, according to my Mama girls didn't watch football anyway. This changed thru the years as we began eating dinner earlier and earlier each year (I often joke that had my Mama lived much longer we would have been having thanksgiving breakfast instead of dinner). My Mama was less strict as the years progressed. I remember not even having the TV on and not being allowed to drink anything until the dinner was over. My cousin has fond memories of sitting and watching the games while having a cold beverage (prolly coke tho and not beer).

When the dinner was over we would clean off the table and doo the dishes and then carefully package up the china again, wrapping it in fresh newspapers and putting them gently in the bottom drawer where they waited to be used next Thanksgiving.

I remember one Thanksgiving where tradition went out the window. My mom, brother and sister went down to Kentucky to celebrate with my Mamaw. It was the first Thanksgiving without my Papaw. He had passed away in the spring. I didn't go with them. It made me too sad to think of spending Thanksgiving down there without him. (looking back it was a very selfish move but at the time all I could think of was how I'd see him everywhere and how was I supposed to enjoy the holiday when I'd spend most of it crying). So I had plans to spend Thanksgiving alone at my mom's house.

I had set myself up with some instant stuffing, instant mashed taters and a small turkey ham. Dinner was almost ready when I heard a knock on the back door. I hid everything (don't ask why...to this day it doesn't make sense to me) and opened the door. There stood my Mama, Papa, Joe and Angie (my 2 cousins) with sacks of White Castles in their hands. Seems my Mama decided not to cook a big dinner for just the 4 of them so they were going to just go out to dinner. Well, they didn't plan this in advance, so most of the restaurants were closed. And the ones that were open you had to have a reservation for. So they drove around looking desperately for something. The only place open was the White Castle on Fort Street and Pennsylvania. So they loaded up on sliders and sides and came knocking on my door to share their Thanksgiving feast.

Surprisingly it's one of my favorite Thanksgivings. We laughed and joked and had dinner and then went out to Briarwood to see a movie. Stargate. My grandparents loved it! Afterwards it was off to Mountain Jack's for some coffee and pumpkin pie. I'm sure years from now when asked to recount my favorite memory from Thanksgiving, this will still be number one.

Kevin and I took over Thanksgiving dinners around 2002. Our first year together we had to cook the dinner at my mom's cuz she had gone to pick up my sister from Virginia so she could be home for the holiday. It went over well. The next year we had a minor setback thanks to the judicial system and weren't allowed to celebrate together, but 2002 is when my family got wise. They realized Kevin wasn't going anywhere and decided to put the family chef to work. We had the tiniest kitchen but Kevin, with all his expertise, somehow made it work and put out a feast. Turkey with all the trimmings, ham, green bean casserole, tamales (from Evie's of course), and the crowning glory...pumpkin cheesecake. We fed both families and had leftovers for days. It was a great Thanksgiving.

So we've been in charge of it every year since. Until this year. We decided one major famly event (the wedding) was enough. There were many other reasons as well which I won't get into but involve other family members and some hurt feelings on my part, and of course the big reason was that my brother's wife is due anyday now with their first child (and my parents' first grandchild). So in the event she decides to pop it out today no one will feel bad about leaving our feast.

It's about time for kickoff for the Lions game. The Turkey just came out of the oven and the fixings are getting ready to go in. In case you're wondering the menu today is:

Roast Turkey
Spiral Sliced Honey Baked Ham
Garlic Parmesan Mashed Potatoes
Turkey Gravy
White Castle Stuffing
Green Bean Casserole
Mashed Sweet Potatoes w/ Caramelized Bananas on top
Evie's Tamales
and lots and lots of beer!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!!

Michigan, Ohio State mourn Schembechler

Legendary coach dies on eve of big game

November 17, 2006

FREE PRESS STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES
Bo Schembechler, one of the nation's greatest college football coaches during his two decades at the University of Michigan, died today after taping a TV show on the eve of the Wolverines' historic showdown with perennial rival Ohio State.

Schembechler, 77, collapsed during the taping of a television show at WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) in Southfield and was taken by ambulance to Providence Hospital in Southfield. His death at 11:42 a.m. was confirmed by Mike Dowd, chief investigator for the medical examiner's office in Oakland County.

"This is a tremendous shock and an irreplaceable loss for the University of Michigan family,'' said U-M President Mary Sue Coleman. "Bo Schembechler embodied all that is best about Michigan – loyalty, dedication and the drive for ever-greater excellence.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who loved him, a number as great as the Michigan community in every corner of the world.

His long-time rivals in Columbus, Ohio, mourned him too.

"This is an extraordinary loss for college football," Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said in a statement. "Bo Schembechler touched the lives of many people and made the game of football better in every way. He will always be both a Buckeye and a Wolverine and our thoughts are with all who grieve his loss."

Former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce, who succeeded Hayes, choked back tears today as he spoke at a fundraiser on the OSU campus, where people with forlorn faces were stunned at the news.

"The state of Ohio and the state of Michigan has lost a great man, has lost a great coach, and a great dad," said Bruce, who addressed the crowd choking back tears. "In my opinion, Bo Schembechler is the greatest football coach Michigan ever had."

Schembechler had a heart attack on the eve of his first Rose Bowl in 1970 and another one in 1987. He has had two quadruple heart-bypass operations.

On Oct. 20, he became ill at the Channel 7 studio and was hospitalized. A device was implanted to regulate his heartbeat. During a news conference earlier this week at which he discussed Saturday's big game, he told reporters that the device covered about half his chest and that doctors were still adjusting it.

Schembechler said he didn't plan to attend the game in Columbus on Saturday, and that he didn't attend road games anymore.

He was talking about the show again this morning when he collapsed about 9:25 a.m. Southfield Police spokesman John Harris said station personnel called emergency workers. The city's fire department escorted an ambulance to Providence Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 11:42 a.m.

The seven-time Big Ten coach of the year compiled a 194-48-5 record at Michigan from 1969-89. Schembechler's record in 26 years of coaching was 234-65-8.
Schembechler's Wolverines were 11-9-1 against the Buckeyes. But fans in both states generally agree that the rivalry's prime years were 1969-78, when Schembechler opposed his friend and coaching guru, Woody Hayes. Ohio State prevailed in those meetings, going 5-4-1.

"It was a very personal rivalry," Earle Bruce, who succeeded Hayes as coach, once said. "And for the first and only time, it was as much about the coaches as it was about the game.

"Bo and Woody were very close because Bo played for Woody at Miami of Ohio, then coached with him at Ohio State. But their friendship was put on hold when Bo took the Michigan job because it was the protege against mentor."

Thirteen of Schembechler's Michigan teams either won or shared the Big Ten championship. Fifteen of them finished in The Associated Press Top 10, with the 1985 team finishing No. 2.

Seventeen of Schembechler's 21 Michigan teams earned bowl berths. Despite a .796 regular-season winning percentage, his record in bowls was a disappointing 5-12, including 2-8 in Rose Bowls.

The mythical national championship eluded Schembechler, but he said that never bothered him.

"If you think my career has been a failure because I have never won a national title, you have another thing coming," Schembechler said a few weeks before coaching his final game. "I have never played a game for the national title. Our goals always have been to win the Big Ten title and the Rose Bowl. If we do that, then we consider it a successful season."

His last game as Wolverines coach was a 17-10 loss to Southern California in the 1990 Rose Bowl. One week later, Schembechler — who also had been serving as Michigan athletic director since July 1988 — was named president of the Detroit Tigers.

Schembechler's signature moment as athletic director probably came in March 1989, when basketball coach Bill Frieder accepted a job at Arizona State on the eve of the NCAA tournament.

An angry Schembechler declared, "A Michigan man will coach Michigan, not an Arizona State man." He refused to accept Frieder's 21-day notice and named assistant Steve Fisher as interim coach.

The Wolverines went on to win the national championship by beating Seton Hall 80-79 in overtime.

Schembechler's tenure as Tigers president was less rewarding.
Schembechler fired beloved broadcaster Ernie Harwell after the 1991 season.
Harwell was brought back two years later.

Schembechler hired extra coaches for every farm team, upgraded all the facilities and introduced football-style strength and conditioning programs.

But those moves bore little fruit at the big-league level. The Tigers' last winning season was in 1993 until they advanced to the World Series this season.
Tigers owner Tom Monaghan fired Schembechler as Tigers president the day before he sold the team to Mike Ilitch in August 1992 — and 13 days before Schembechler's wife, Millie, died at age 63 of adrenal cancer. Bo Schembechler sued, claiming Monaghan had broken a contract the Domino's Pizza owner had jotted down on a napkin. They settled out of court in 1994.

Schembechler was an intense disciplinarian and his gruff persona belied his devotion to his players, both during and after their playing days in Ann Arbor.
"He preached the team from day one, and it's still being taught now," offensive guard Reggie McKenzie, who played for Schembechler from 1969-71, said when he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003.

McKenzie said Schembechler's iron hand almost prompted him to quit. But, he said: "I learned to beat him by doing it the right way every time, all the time. That's the attitude we had at Michigan."

While Schembechler loved coaching, he was less enamored with some other aspects of college football. In his 1989 book "Bo," co-written with Free Press sports columnist Mitch Albom, Schembechler decried drugs, sports agents and the pressures of recruiting.

"Recruiting is the worst part of college football," he wrote. "I no longer look forward to it. I can't wait until it's over. It makes me feel like a pimp."

Schembechler was born April 1, 1929 in Barberton, Ohio. He graduated in 1951 from Miami of Ohio and earned a master's degree in 1952 at Ohio State, where he served until 1953 as a graduate assistant under Hayes.

After serving in the Army, Schembechler held assistant coaching jobs at Presbyterian College in 1954 and Bowling Green in 1955, then joined Ara Parseghian's staff at Northwestern in 1958 before returning to Ohio State as an assistant to Hayes.

Schembechler was named head coach at Miami in 1963, winning two Mid-American Conference titles in six seasons. In 1969, he took over a Michigan program that had posted six losing seasons over the previous 11 years. He did not have a losing season at either school.

Schembechler worked as an ABC Sports football broadcaster and analyst in 1991-92 and was a popular motivational speaker for many years.

Schembechler was inducted into the Miami University Hall of Fame in 1972, the State of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1989, the University of Michigan Hall of Honor in 1992, the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 1993 and the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1993.

Bo and Millie Schembechler had one son, Glenn III. Schembechler and his second wife, Cathy, married in 1993.

I am such a sucker

as of this moment we are now a 4 cat household. as i sit here typing our newest temporary addition is laying on my lap, purring contentedly and appears to be trying to suckle on my arm. I originally thought she was licking me, but the slight kneading of her tiny claws on my arm as she was sucking taught me otherwise. She's an adorable baby calico around 3 months I would say. It's too dark now for me to take a pic (my camera's still broken) but she looks something like this:

but with a tabby face. I'm gonna take a pic of her tomorrow so we can make up flyers....i'll share with you then. She has what i originally thought was a decorative collar, now i think it kinda looks like a glow in the dark flea collar (it's green) and she kinda smells like flea powder or something.

The story of how she ended up sitting in my lap goes like this:

Kevin and I went out tonight to run a couple shopping errands. we got back to the house around 9:30-ish. I opened the back car door to get the bags and a little furball shot past me into the backseat. I had never seen this cat before around the house. I tried talking to it to coax it out, which made Kevin wonder who the hell I was talking to. He came over to check and at first freaked out thinking it had been in the car from one of the stops we made. I reassured him that was not the case. That it must be a neighbor's cat.

Once we got her out of the car, she proceeded to follow us up to the front door and tried to walk right into the house. She was so friendly. Even before we saw the collar we figured she had to be lost and not an outdoor cat or a stray at all. I eventually had to pick her up and hold her while Kevin got the bags so she wouldn't sneak in the house. That's when I saw the collar. Like I said, I thought it was decorative so we went to the side of the house to get some light and check for tags or other identifiers. (the front porch light is out...have to change the bulb) We couldn't find anything on her.

I tried having her follow me down the sidewalk a little ways to see if she would head home. No dice. so I led her into the backyard and into the garage. I figured that would at least be some shelter for her until she decided to go home. I came inside, we took care of kitty stuff (litter boxes and feedings) and settled in to watch the football game. That's when we noticed she had jumped up into the window flower box and was watching us. Kaguya and BC examined her for awhile. After about 20 minutes I asked Kevin if it was alright for me to take some food out to her. He agreed and I did. We both knew we really couldn't bring her in. Even tho it was cold, she had a home and we already had 3 kitties in house. And with BC shut up in the backroom (he's been hissing at Kaguya and starting tussles) we didn't want to close off another room to Kaguya and start to freak her out with all the cats.

When I brough the food out she jumped down and practically attacked the bowl. And about 10 minutes after I came back inside she went right back up to the flower box and curled up to fall asleep.

Around 11pm Kevin made the executive decision to bring her in. It was getting deathly cold outside and she wasn't showing any signs of leaving our flower box. So we got the litter box we had stored outside (which we were going to bring out anyway for the new cats...they are POOPY!!!) and set up the back puter room (where I am now) for her. I went outside and picked her up to bring her in. She was so cold and shivering. I honestly don't think she would have lasted if she had to stay outside.

And so....here we are with a 4th cat. It's only temporary tho. Like I said, I'm taking her pic tomorrow and making up a flyer. Kevin's going to get them posted around town and I'm also going to post in some of the local yahoo groups I belong to. I'm sure whoever she belongs to is a nervous wreck tonight. I know I would be.

I can't sleep (warning it contains sports stuff)

Earlier this evening I couldn't keep my eyes open. It was all I could do to stay awake during the New Orleans Saints Monday night spectacular ... and I love football! Not to mention New Orleans!

Before I go any further, let me just tell you that the game and everything about it was amazing! The NFL really did well to make up for the debacle of last year when they made them play a "HOME" game in NEW YORK! That was seriously a laugh. Giants Stadium on it's best day isn't a place for out of town teams. And altho they gave them a great welcome, when that game started they were all about their NYGiants. And I can't blame them. I would be hard pressed to root for a visiting team in my home stadium.

But last night was phenomenal. The fans were there in droves. ESPN had practically every sports person they have on staff sent down there. They had coverage all day (as they usually do) but this was special. They kept emphasising that, altho this is a great thing to happen to NOLA to have the Saints playing in the Superdome, there is still alot of work to be done. And interspersed with the pics of the happy fans and the full stadium were photos of the devastation caused by Katrina and the failing levees. It was inspiring and sobering and heartwrenching and full of hope all at the same time.

Throughout the live reports you kept hearing people chanting in the background "Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?" I loved it. I could only imagine what the atmosphere was like down on Bourbon Street in the quarter. I'm sure it was electric.

Pregame included performances from Green Day (Wake me when September Ends) and U2 (Beautiful Day). It was nice, but I would have much rather seen NOLA locals like Harry Connick Jr. take the stage. They did good with the National Anthem tho. They had local music legand Alan Toussaint accompany local soul queen Irma Thomas. And George HW Bush was there to do the coin toss. The Saints lost the toss, but it didn't even matter cuz they blocked a punt and recovered it for a TD in the first couple minutes of the game and they just kept on from there.

I'm not gonna bore you with football details. Let's just say it was a great game which ended with a huge Saints victory 23-3 over the Atlanta Falcons. I was happy. And I did eventually get to see Harry Connick Jr. during the game as they spoke with him sometime in the 3rd quarter. He said what we heard the whole time we were down there. "Come down and spend your money here in the local hotels and restaurants" Because that is what will help rebuild their economy and create new jobs and bring people back to their homes.

After the game Kevin went up to bed and I was gonna follow him shortly after. I was so exhausted all day. And then I must have got my 2nd wind. Cuz I'm still not tired and it's close to 6AM. I'm not awake enough to be constructive around the house and do things like dishes or laundry or compile the pics of our NOLA vaca ...just awake enough to not be able to fall asleep when my head hits the pillow. And to top it all off there is nothing on TV at this hour of the day that I want to watch and I'm out of yarn for my current crochet projects (which I need to finish this weekend).

*sigh* I guess I should at least try again to catch some zzzzz. Maybe it will work this time.

I Love Football Sundays

When I was in high school, football was a neccessary ebil. Something you sat thru until halftime when the marching band finally played. I remember sitting in the stands watching the game, having no idea what was going on, but yelling with Jules 'Pinski "BLOOD! GIVE ME BLOOD! KILL THE QUARTERBACK!" It was fun and cathartic. I hadn't a clue what I was yelling tho. It was just a way to pass the time until we had to line up and march.

But somewhere between then and now I have become a football addict. And luckily my husband is too. Yea i know, he's a man, aren't all men addicted to football? The answer is no. Most of the men I ever dated hated the idea of sitting in front of a TV screen on Sundays watching games. Especially the Lions. So I gritted my teeth and bit my tongue and usually worked at the bar on Sundays so I could catch some football on the sly.

But a little over 6 years ago I met Kevin. And he loves football as much as I do. He's a Jets fan (no accounting for taste) and he thoroughly enjoys just vegging in front of the TV from 11am Sunday morning (pregame) until somewhere around 1AM (postgame). We make football food (chili, grilled burgers and dogs, brats... that sort of thing) and drink lots of beer. It's a totally unhealthy day and an unhealthy way to start the week, but I absolutely don't care. I love my football Sundays.

Now, to be fair, I think my sister was a football (and a Lions fan) way before me. I remember when she got an autographed picture of our rookie kicker Jason Hanson. I think he was at Southland. I had no clue who he was. I learned pretty quickly tho. And Jason is now my future baby daddy. I love that man. Of all the Lions, he is the most consistent AND he's got such character. There aren't any current players I like more than him.

Past players I love include Robert Porcher, Luther Ellis and Chris Spielman. Men of immpecable character. Men I admire. Do you know Chris Spielman quit playing football in order to support his wife who was going thru breast cancer treatments? And Robert Porcher loves the city of Detroit. After he retired he invested in TWO upscale restaurants in downtown. I've been to one of them, Seldom Blues located in the RenCen, it's fabulous. And Luther Ellis is just a stand up guy. I met him at a football for women function a few years back. Unlike the other guys there, he stayed and signed autographs until the line was gone.

But the guys aren't the only reason I watch. I just love the almost gladiator-like thrill of the game. I love cheering on my team. I love seeing an amazing TD pass reception or a fantastic rush. I Love a Dre Bly interception. I love watching them sack Brett Favre. I love my football Sundays.

So I have this new toy

I think I need to use it. It's too tempting not to.

So Kevin and I went to the Fallstitch jamboree on Saturday night. Unfortunately we didn't get to see all the cool important stuff... Kevin ended up having to work Saturday (which he wasn't supposed to) and then he ended up getting out later than he planned, so we got there around 9:30-ish. Mon and Mark were outside chatting, so I saw them right away! It was great! they looked fabulous! And it wasn't awkward at all. Felt like we hadn't had that long gap of years between when we've seen each other (me and mon that is).

Unfortunately my hubby is kinda anti-social when he first gets out of work. He needs unwind time. So after chatting a bit with the Beadles we went inside and saw the gorgeous bride. She had just changed out of her dress and into a HAWT leopard print skirt. She looked fabulous! We chatted for a moment, signed the autograph picture and put the card on the table (I didn't know the cherry hat box was the card box...I'm so dense).

Julia told us to drink drink drink...so we did! We made our way over to the bar and got some beer. I saw Karen and Laura Roncevich and said hi. Then i noticed their mom over on the other side of the room. On my way there I saw Chris Carmody so we chatted for a few. He had grown up so great! He always was, but man he really seems together. Marriage and fatherhood is good on him.

After that I went over to Mrs. Roncevich to say hi. After all, she was my mom in South Pacific (Bloody Mary is the girl I love....) so I say hi and she looks at me kinda strange and I introduce myself and she says "i thought you were Melanie for a minute! I was wondering why she changed her dress" This doesn't surprise me. You won't be able to tell from the pics to follow, but she and I look alot alike according to people we know. The story goes that when Melfish walked into fall auditions at RHS in 1990 as a frosh people thought she was me. Chicken wrote me about her immediately. So when I came home for fall break I met her and we've been friends ever since.

So I chatted with the fish mom for a few and then went searching for fish. I still hadn't seen her at this point. At some point during all this i got to run into Zach and thank him for inviting us. He was sloshed. I wish I had been at our wedding *sigh*

So I finally found fish out front of the PRCU and we sat and chatted. And chatted. And chatted. then I got my hubby and we all went out for a smoke and chatted some more. She had some major issues that were going on with her that night. I'm just glad I was there to be her friend and listen to her. I think it's ultimately the reason we were so late. If i had been there on time I would prolly have been just as sloshed and then what good would I have been.

After awhile she came back in and we took a couple pics. I look horrible in them, but I'll share them anyway. Kevin really needs to learn to take a pic on the level instead of sitting down....it makes me look fatter.

And my favorite pic of the night ....  her with Kevin:

Those are all the pics I got....I kept forgetting to take more. I can't wait to see Julia and Zach's final pics of all the stuff I missed.

By the end of the night fish was all better and we finished our beer and helped Zach and Julia cart a few things out to the car. We said our goodbyes and off we went into the night. (actually to our local watering hole where our favorite bartender proceeded to get us hammered with free pitchers...she was in a generous mood...musta been cuz Kevin looked hot lol)

All in all it was a good night...even if I didn't get to interact with as many people as long as I wanted to. OH! And they played a RUSH song near the end of the night! YAY!

And....as a bonus for actually reading my blog.....cute kitty in the box picture. (yes there's another 30 pack behind the one she's in....it was football friday for crying out loud!!!)

I hate thinking of headlines

OKay...first of all...new song added to my profile! Using a cool new gadget I just read about HERE. It's a new (free) service that allows you to upload your own music and make a playlist and then add that to your myspace page. So you can have tons of songs on your player and add it to your myspace if you really wanted...just change the order of the playlist whenever it suits you. I haven't really played around with it. I was so damn excited that I wasn't limited to what myspace bands have to offer I just uploaded the first song that came into my head and VOILA!

So anyway, last night we went over to Ian and Michelle's for a party. It started around 9PM ... we got there around 11-ish. It turned out to be a going away party for one of Michelle's best friends. So we showed up with some beer and had a great time. It was nothing more than people milling around the house drinking and chatting with each other. While in the basement we noticed a poster leaning against the wall for the movie "2046" ... which I had just recorded on our DVR and Kevin and I were planning on watching this weekend. So I mentioned it and that got us all started on Asian cinema (which we watch mostly Asian horror but still...) Very interesting. Ian is very into Asian cinema (which you can tell if you look at his myspace duh! Sometimes I can be pretty dense) as was the other guy we were talking to, Stan. Stan is Michelle's friend from college (and he and his gf were the reason for the party....they're moving to San Diego)

Kevin got along famously with Stan and Ian. I chatted some with Michelle and her friends thru the course of the night. I really like her. I said it before, but she is just a phenomenal person. So nice and genuine and intelligent. (of course I didn't expect anything less) I kept hoping Evan would show before we had to leave but he didn't. He got lost on his way to Ferndale from Wyandotte lol. When Ian talked to him, he said to keep me there until he got there, but who knows when that could have been. Hopefully I'll get to see him this summer before he heads back to Colorado.

Before we left, Stan showed us a student project he did. It was a short film. About 9 minutes. Ian and some friends did the soundtrack. It was a zombie flick. Right up Kevin's alley. I *loved* it! Kevin actually wants to get a copy of it for our movie collection. It was brilliant. Stan said that when he first wanted to do the project the staff pretty much looked down their noses at him. You're in art school and you should do art...not zombie movies. But he sent feelers out anyway to see if people would be interested in helping him and was stunned by the response he received. He actually got around 20 people to dress as zombies for the final scene.

The movie plot was simple. Guy comes in and complains to friend that some homeless guy bit him. Shortly thereafter he turns and attacks said friend. They then go up into the dorms and get the security guard, who then goes with them up to the rooms. And at the end you see just tons of zombies walking out. they got them all! MUAHAHAHAHAHA

Stan was great! I am so sad that we got to meet him and he's moving!

I tell you what tho, it was nice to be around people that share our affinities. We get stuck going to the local bars and inevitably you end up talking about football or baseball or whatever sport is currently the season, or about the weather, etc....you know, pretty much small talk. And I hate small talk. Give me some meat with my conversation. For instance, last night we even started touching on religion and christianity. a social no-no. Especially with people you barely know. But we all held conversaions just fine. Intelligent. Civil. Perfect.

So I'm thinking of finally cleaning and organizing our house up and maybe having parties again. Simple ones. Just friends coming over, maybe playing games or whatever, sharing drinks and conversation and just generally enjoying each other's company. Sound like fun?

tyra banks is an idiot (warning: about strippers)

I don't know why i recorded that drivel...okay I do...she was going undercover in a strip club to understand why men go there and what it's all about. I wanted to see. Being that I used to be a stripper about 10 years ago. But all it did was piss me off. She made it seem like the men that go to these places are sick and the women that work there are all pretty much high school dropouts or had something traumatic happen to them when they were younger or were in abusive relationships. Which ticks me off cuz I was a stripper for 4 years. I graduated in the top 20 or so of my class and went to Yale University for a year. And I don't feel there was anything wrong with me being a stripper. I found the job by accident. I answered an ad "dancers wanted" she asked how old I was. "19" did i have any experience? "well I can tap and jazz" (i'm sure she stifled a giggle here) you DO KNOW that this is exotic dancing? "ummmm...no" are you still interested? "sure"

So she set up an audition and I borrowed my mom's high heels and my bf at the time drove me to the bar. I remember dancing to Madonna in a stretch top and a black thong she had brought for me. Even tho I was underage she offered me a drink before I went up to dance. I declined. I remember she was impressed with me. I remember it was a little weird at first to dance topless, but i got used to it. 1 song dressed...2 w/o a top. They hired me. She ended up as my agent. I would make $5/hr plus tips (they don't have hourly anymore...they barely had it at the time I quit) It doesn't sound like much, but I ended up working at a bar called "Golddiggers" in Detroit and I worked easily 6 days a week and alot of doubles. I remember they told me to order "rum & coke" or "screwdrivers" and don't let the men taste them. Since I was underage they would give me just cole or O.J. but charge the men for the alcoholic version.

The first bar (whereI auditioned) was called "Shakers" I don't know what it's called now. I was there a week or 2 when they fired me cuz I was too fat. I was about 150lbs @ 5'6"...not fat but not skinny. So my agent got me a job at golddiggers. I fit in like a glove there. It was run by 2 women, May and Nettie. They were proly in their late 40s or so. Nettie's hubby owned the place. They took me under their wings. I never saw any drugs, altho I'm sure people were using. I never did any. I just danced. I loved it too. Especially during the day. The tips weren't as good, but the guys were nice. It was like a neighborhood bar...like Cheers but with strippers...same guys would come in everyday. You sit and chat with them, they buy you drinks, maybe get a lap dance or a tip while you were onstage. This one pair of friends, Butch and Greg, came in everyday around 4 and sat at the same table. You'd be lucky to get a dollar out of them each time you went to the stage, but they'd buy drinks all night long. They were good guys.

Sure, you'd get the occassional asshole, but generally the guys that came in there were there to escape from the everyday world. We had a pool table. I became pretty good. We had a big screen TV. Used to watch Monday Night Football all the time. We even had karaoke. I used to sing while I stripped. Even had regulars who would come in and sing just for me while i danced (yea we had to dance to at least one karaoke song each time we got on stage...sometimes it was pretty awful! I got lucky usually) I have really fond memories of that place.

I'm not saying it was all roses and lollypops. There were the guys that aszked you if you did "private shows" or the ones that tried to touch you while you were giving them a dance. (we were never allowed to touch them at golddiggers...we had to stand on a box and dance near them...like a private stage) but I met alot of really nice guys while I was there too. Greg, James, Brian...to name a few...made some really good friends and had some really good times. I was too young to understand some of the things that were going on...even when it directly affected me...I attribute that to the fact that I grew up so sheltered. I didn't have my first real kiss until I was 17 and away for a weekend visiting the Yale campus. I never smoked or drank or went to parties in high school. didn't much do it when I went to college either. I used to make fun of the drunk people. So dancing was a totally different world for me. I remember once a guy i went to high school with came in the bar. He used to date my best friend Rebecca. I used to have a crush on him. That was pretty embarrassing lol. Shouldn't have been for me, but it was.

WOW! this ended up nothing like I wanted it to. A small trip down memory lane. Like I said, it wasn't all roses and lollypops. But I do have fond memories. And I know what it was like. And to see Tyra pretty much degrading the women that strip and the men that go there without trying to understand what it is all about...well it made me mad. It's not all about sex. Sometimes...most of the time...it was about companionship. Someone who would listen.

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY!

OMG I HAVE TO SHARE! I entered us into a small contest with a local radio station. 94.7 WCSX classic rock station. They had a contest where you emailed them why they should crash your superbowl party and they were choosing 94 of the entries to crash. So i wrote them about how we're huge football fans...we watch football all day Sunday...wait! lemme see if i have a copy!

Dear WCSX Party Crashers,
My finace and I are avid football fans. We've been together for 6 years and every Sunday during football season (regular and post) is FOOTBALL SUNDAY! We wake up in time to watch pre-game and are glued to the TV the entire day watching whatever football we can get. Even on Thanksgiving, much to the chagrin of non-football fan family members, the day is centered around the games. Of course, with me being a die-hard Lions fan and he a NY Jets fan, we didn't have much to cheer about this season, but we did our best to support our teams!

We just bought a house in July, so this is going to be our first Superbowl party here. We are also planning a wedding for May 5, 2006. We're trying to make this party the best it can be for our friends, family and ourselves before we must put all we have towards our upcoming nuptuals. We would love for you to come to our party and make it one we will all remember for years to come!

Sincerely,
Jazmyn Kemper & Kevin Bencik

about 15-20 people are coming to our party
from 4pm until whenever the last person leaves!

So apparently they saw something they liked cuz THEY'RE CRASHING OUR PARTY!!!!! They're supposed to be here between 12noon and 1pm...which is good cuz i was actually afraid they would show during the party and was worried about what if there isn't15-20 people here (there might not be...people are flaking left and right...as usual for our parties...seriously I'm thinking only about 20 people are gonna show to our reception lol)

So I have to put some makeup on. I just woke up. I was calling people last night around 2am (cuz kevin never listens to his phone messages and they called his phone so we didn't hear the message until we got home from the bar @ 2am..and I proceeded to call people in the middle of the night i was so obnoxious!) I'm gonna be so tired!

oh! and GO STEELERS!!!!!!!

1/4/06

I'm so weepy 2day

OMG...it started when i woke up to a knock @ the front door. It was a delivery. From New Mexico. THANK YOU fawN!!! I had 2 cups of chai immediately! And I cried a little bit cuz you are such a thoughtful friend. I don't deserve you!

It continued with listening to a cassette tape of me singing. It was a copy of the tape i gave my Mama (grandma) the xmas before she passed away. Xmas songs on one side...standards on the other. It was okay...a couple of songs I was sucky I admit...but it got to the end of the xmas songs and I had recorded me saying "Merry Christmas Mama....I Love You" I heard that and I started bawling uncontrollably. Just out of nowhere and I couldn't stop myself. I cried for about an hour.

And just now I was watching the beginning of the Rose Bowl and saw LeeAnn Rimes singing the Star Spangled Banner and it brought tears to my eyes. Not that she was all that (altho she was pretty damn amazing) i don't know...it just hit me right in the heart.

SO now it's time to go watch the football game (i don't know who I'm rooting for....my family's from TX but my t'hy'la went to USC) and crochet a little. *hugs*

Stupid Yahoo Group

Okay I just have to vent. and I warn you there may be obscenities here. Sorry.

I've been a member (until today) of a Detroit Lions group on Yahoo. I've loved it, plus my old friend Dino is a member there, but we had a new member join recently. He's pretty much an azz so I try to ignore him as much as possible (and I've deleted many of the posts I've gotten in email so this won't be a complete listing of his arrogance and idiocy) so one of the posts he sends that gets my blood boiling is this:

~~~~~~~~~
Yea, we used to have hot cheerleaders just like the cowboys, in fact, we had 2 different sets on the field, at both corner endzones. A pom-pom squad and a cheerleading squad. Lions thought it took interest off the game and put it on them, so they axed em'. They also discovered some pervs were buying tickets and watching them the whole game, and never even looking at the game, and believe it or not, it was true. They started filming the cheerleader watchers and decided we had some creepys in the stands. But hey, even true football fans would miss a play now n then because of em', if ya know what I mean. This is when they would even do cheers during plays, not like now when cheerleaders only do them between plays and time-outs.
I think if we got some cheerleaders back, and they did not cheer during plays, it would add support and not take from the game.
But Michigan is a very misandrist feminist Matriarchy, and virtually feminist controlled. Wives and feminists didn't like their husbands looking at the cheerleaders for three hours with football plays in between. I think our female governor and senator are proof of that. Michigan is feminist controlled, don't get a divorce or cross a female in Michigan, the feminists will see that you are hung without a trial. lol.
When they dumped the cheerleaders because the feminists didn't want it, the news ran a story insinuating it was because of pervs, by filming a guy in the stands staring at the cheerleading squad. So between the two, it was axed.
You get a different perspective when you've lived in Dallas for 2 years and Florida for 1o, like I have. When I came back home I discovered just how controled Michigan was by the feminazi's. I didn't realize it until I moved to states with more equality. We gave them the right to vote, and have done nothing but strip males of their rights and children ever since. Ever wonder why a female with 6 kids gets custody and $2600.00 per month in welfare, while males get $150 in food stamps and must sleep in the alley? You guessed it, feminist control. And male feminists are even worse, they'll do anything a female tells them to do. They are no man. If the feminists don't want cheerleaders, ya ain't gonna see em' in a state like Michigan. lol. Sad but true.
~~~~~~~~~

I mean WTF! FEMINAZIS?!?! I was so flipping mad I composed about 5 email posts to reply to it chock full of facts and refuting his ignorant mysoginistic view of things but I finally calmed down and let it pass. I figured why give him power over me. so I ignore his posts for the most part...if he spouts off I let it pass. I mean some people just get off on being assholes online. And I know sometimes I'm uber sensitive to situations where i feel men are talking down to me cuz I'm a woman or the whole being hispanic in a sea of whites thing. So I let it slide...and a few others...after all this is a group consisting mostly of men so I try not to rock the boat. But then the other day we're talking about former QBs that should come back to the Lions and I mention Jim Harbaugh (*sigh* he's dreamy...plus he was an amazing team leader on and off the field) actually the posts go like this:

~~~~~~~~~~~
david adams <***@yahoo.com> wrote:
I think Green Bay's downfall rests on Favre. He just sucks this year! Jim McMahon has been lookin around, I say we take him. What's your thoughts?
On 12/20/05, Randall A. Harris <***@yahoo.com> wrote:
McMahon? Doesn't he qualify for Social Sec benefits? I'll tell you what. As a leader, I'll take him anyday. Skill wise, he wasn't the greatest, but I doubt you find a better field leader than ole Jimmy. Maybe we'll see Joey with a Rozell head band and sun glasses.
Magik Jaz wrote:
lol on JM but I have to respectfully say that Jim Harbaugh would be the man if you're gonna dream of a field leader plus with skills. I still get depressed thinking about how we just let him go...and kept Ty Detmer *sigh* oh well..university of San Diego has a great head and qb coach cuz of it
"Randall A. Harris" <***@yahoo.com> wrote:
Oh Gawd! We can talk for days about the people the Lions let get away. Is it possible to be under the influence of organizational stupidity? I mean a whole organization that fails because of a compete lack of common sense? Or maybe a course. This Jauron guy is killing with his interviews. Its like:
[Journalist]: "Coach Jauron, what do you tell your players before a game like this?"
[Jauron]: "I don't know."
[Journalist]: "Coach, why have the Lions continued to lose and what will you do about it?"
[Jauron]: "I don't know. Find me one person that has the answer to that, he/she can tell me, and we'll both know."
[Jauron]: "Garcia is my starter"
AN ORGANIZATIONAL LACK OF FOOTBALL SENSE!!! Or maybe this is a strategy designed to trick the football world believing the Lions are perennial losers. If thats the case then it is pure ambrosia genius because they even got the players fooled.
david adams <***@yahoo.com> wrote:
He wants a female to tell him? Does he mean like those butches they get with the manly voice on the field that we have to listen to with a pre-script que card at least once every quarter telling us about a player injury? It's laughable! Then she'll move her hands around to try and convince us she's right, like she's in the locker room and rehab with the injured player. It's a feminist control power fiasco! I say boot her ass off the field, they try and stick there nose in everything! These female butch commentators don't know jack about the game, so why even try and push that BS off on us? As soon as the sideline female commentator starts her dialog, I turn the TV to another game to check the score. At least if a guy were doing it, it wouldn't look so fake......(there's more but it's football stuff so it's actually pretty relevant to the topic)
then there's some response to his post:
Yay Todd. I mean he's a Favre lover so I don't particularly like his but that's okay he's got balls enough to say something to this asshole running his male mouth. Then:
david adams <***@yahoo.com> wrote:
I like to see female fans, but why are all the sideline commenters now females?
There are plenty of male football sports commentaters more deserving with more knowledge and experience than the females reading que cards, or memorizing a short scrpit. And why do they all have to have a man's voice or sound they are chain smokers?
Next they'll insist on being coaches or allowed to play in the NFL, how would you feel about that?
I'm with the times, that's the problem. Women getting their hands on every facet of male sports is the new criteria. Hell, if the white man didn't have a say, the whole league would be black players by now. Where do ya draw the line? Are white men still in the NFL only for a harmonic ethnic racial balance? Are there better white quarterbacks more deserving than Vick? The last thing I need is a girl telling me how to play football. Are we going to hold them at sideline injury reports, player status and after game interviews? I've already talked to several guys that don't like them on the field. Would you spear a female like you would a male? Do I feel threatened that they may soon insist on playing? No, but who are we to say no they can't play? Once they get their foot in the door like they are doing, it's all down hill from there. That Chang girl is trying to get into the PGA when there is a WPGA already? What kind of power play is that? Can I join the WPGA? Just curious?.....
Dave
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

there are about 3 more emails where he "argues" his point so i post:

~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're joking right? Cuz this ignorance is only at home on the Jerry Springer show. I respectufully ask the moderators to keep this racist mysoginistic bullshit of the board. I've let many a comment from you slide, but as a female football fan (oh yeah, did I mention I'm also OF COLOR?) I find this highly offensive.
Thank you
Jazmyn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And I'm told by someone else that "As much as Dave's post lacked tact, he makes some good points, and just because he's right doesn't mean he should be shut down." And one of the MODERATORS says basically "this topic isn't about the Lions anymore...let it drop" SO...it's okay for David to argue his mysoginistic bullshit about football in general but I can't say how I feel? FUCK THEM. So I left the group. I posted a goodbye and the reason why I left. FUCK that. Maybe I'm too used to the couch where we actually try not to hurt people's feelings, but seriously.

I have fought the majority of my adult life as a sports fan...as a FEMALE sports fan...to simply be treated as an equal in my opinions and comments on the game. I know it sounds foolish and I'm sure I'll regret leaving the group someday but when you KNOW you have a female in the group who is an active member, how can you let someone spout off at the mouth like that?

I"m highly emotional today anyway for some reason. I know it's not PMS cuz i just went thru that. I've been crying @ thedrop of a hat. But I asked Kevin what he thought of what the guy posted last night before I sent my post thru and he said the guy was an idiot.

Maybe I should have let it go. Maybe i should have argued my point more and tore him down. I'm just not in the mood to deal with any more assholes than i have in the past week or so.

I've decided I think I hate people. Not my friends. Just people.

*hugs* there I got that out (kinda) now back tocrocheting HAPPY HOLIDAYS

11/10/05

So you don't think it's all about crocheting lol

Let's fill you in on my life.

A week and a half ago was my bday. 33. I'm getting old. I ended up having to work that night. Okay i didn't "end up" having to work...i volunteered. It was the Livonia Elk's halloween party. Supposed to be a great time. Well, Kevin picked me up from home, we drove to the corner store to pick up smokes and pumpkin seeds, and as we were leaving the car died. The transmission went. We couldn't go in drive or reverse. We were stuck. So we pushed the car to a side street and I called Paul to let him know what was going on. He came and picked us up and took us there. I did the job and they reassured me someone would take us home so we wouldn't need to get a cab. Well...everyone that had offered got drunk and left before the show ended so we got stuck taking a $20 cab home anyway...plus spending $15 for drinks that night...I made a grand total of $15...which I'm sure we spent in smokes that night and the next lol.

So the next morning I wake up to someone pounding on the door. Being the mexican-american that I am, i sneak downstairs and peek thru the crack in the door to see if i can determine who it is without them seeing me. I can't so i go back upstairs without knowing who it was. Turns out it was a cop. They came back by a couple hours later to let us know that the veterinarian by where we parked our car wasn't happy and wanted our car towed, but he just stickered it and said if it wasn't moved by monday he'd tow it, then came over to our house to tell us! How awesome is that? If it was in Wyandotte you KNOW it would have been towed and we wouldn't have known until we went to pick it up!

So Kevin talked to his brother Joey about buying his Pontiac as a 2nd car (a primary car until we got the dodge fixed) and he agreed to take payments but he wouldn't bring it out until Sunday, so we rented a car for the weekend from Enterprise.

So that night i worked again. A Halloween party in BFE Belleville. They ranged from about 23-27 in age and their main concern was getting drunk that night. Eventually I just had them tell me what songs they wanted to sing and I looked them up and wrote them down for them. I doubt they could even read they drank so much. I wanted to get out of there @1am (which was what they booked us for) so we could maybe grab a last call @ the local watering hole, but they decided they wanted another hour. So after consulting with Paul (he left the decision up to me since I was breaking it down) I decided to go ahead and do it. I was only gonna get $15 more (i get $15/hour for private parties) but after they took up a collection of everyone there...plus the tip they gave me for the whole night...i wound up with over $100 for one hour of work!!!! Hopefully they'll have us back next year ;-)

Sunday Oct 30th was my bday party here @ the house. Nothing big just burgers & hotdogs and football. OH! And hurricanes. We ordered hurricane mix from Pay O' Briens in NOLA! It was awesome! The Lions lost (big surprise) but we had so much fun! We had a bonfire later on at night and Joel came to the party and I hadn't seen him in so long it was great! Kevin passed out after having too many hurricanes at around 9PM...he slept straight thru until almost 2PM the next day!

Kevin's brother Joey brought his Pontiac Sunday and Monday we went to the Dodge dealership to see if a recall had caused this trans problem. They said no. So kevin called some auto shops to make sure, then he finally made a deal with the financing company for them to finance it and tack it onto our payments (since we still owe a year) He threatened to not make payments otherwise. What were they gonna do? Take the car? Be my guest!

Nothing too exciting this past week until Friday. (oh and the dentist on thursday, but you know all about that) Paul is having me work 3 weeks @ o'tee's in Romulus and my first night was last friday. My mom took me to dinner @ some new itelian place in Wyane called "johnny Carino's" it was really good! After she took me to work where Paul showed me how to set up and everything. It was going great until someone said something to my cousin that Joe didn't like then words were spoken and finally Joe was banned from the bar. I must have apologized a gazillion times for him. I was so pissed. I'll explain tomorrow what actually happened. Luckily they were cool and let me still work there. Saturday there was BUSY!!! I haven't had a huge rotation like that in YEARS!! At the end of the night as I put everything away, Paul told me that people were singing my praises and that they thought I did a great job hosting *YAY* I mean, I've been doing it for almost 9 years now, but it's nice to hear ;-)

Sunday Kevin's friend Kevin came over for football and we had a great time. Lions lost (again) nothing much else to say lol

My teeth have been killing me since the dentist I've been popping so many pills. Only 4 more days to go tho. I've been good and brushing them 2 and 3 times a day and flossing too. I'm gonna do my best to keep the teeth I can.

Okay I think that's pretty much it. I gotta work tomorrow a private party in Lincoln Park then off to O'Tee's to finish out the night and Sat is O'Tee's again. This extra money is really coming in handy. I need to go job hunting monday tho. Just 20 hours a week @ Mickey D's and I'll be happy, I can walk there if i have to.

KK, time for a nap. I'm so tired and I've done nothing all day lol *hugs*
