Not feeling very festive

Usually Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. Food, Football, Friends and lots of beer. What more could a girl like me ask for? We spend all Wednesday night getting things prepped for the big day (like cutting taters and brining the turkey etc) and then go out for some well deserved adult beverages before heading to sleep around 2am. Then it's up at 10 to put the bird in and have everything done by noon (yes I know we eat early...it's due to football schedules....gotta have the food done before the games so we can watch them)

But this year I'm not that into it. I don't know why. And today is super worse in that I'm supposed to go to a Wings game tonight with someone from the bar and I totally don't wanna go. I know. I shouldn't turn down a game. But the weather is crap and it's just St. Louis (no offense Chicken) and I'd much rather stay home and try and continue the cleaning (it's gonna take every bit of the time I have to straighten up our house even remotely...we kinda let it go to put this week). Plus the guy that I'm going with told me that I HAVE to buy all the drinks tonight cuz he is providing the ticket. Yea. The last guy that went with him to a game spent over $50 in drinks alone. I don't have that kind of money.

And to top it all off I think I have fallen into a depression of sorts that I can't seem to break out of. I started crying on the phone to Kevin earlier and I had no reason whatsoever to cry. I was just talking and all of the sudden there were tears. And he's the best but he didn't know what to do or to say.

So I'm gonna jump in the shower and see if that makes me feel any better and try and figure out what I'm gonna do about the hockey game. The more I think about it the less I really want to go. And i hate that I'm gonna turn down a hockey game. I love the Wings. And I might not get to go to another one all year. But will it really be worth it to go tonight if I'm gonna spend way too much money that we don't have and be miserable? And did I mention the seats aren't that great and he already pissed me off asking me if I would be able to walk up all the stairs to get to the seats (they're section 206 row 14 ... so there's a fair amount of stairs to climb..and yes I'm overweight, but don't be a dick about it)

Yea, the more I think about it as I'm writing, the less I want to go. Now I just have to think of a good excuse. Maybe I got stuck downriver or maybe I have a family thing I forgot about ... I don't know but I have only about 45 minutes to come up with something good.

Any ideas?

Some things on my mind

I was gonna write some awesome blogs, but them I realized I had like 50 different things to say which would mean 50 blogs which would mean fruit would call me a blog yeti and everyone would unsubscribe cuz they got tired of teh little blue messages saying "New blog subscription posts" and it would just be me and I'm extremely addicted to having actual subscribers ... so instead I'm gonna write one monster one and get everything off my chest.

1. "Grease: You're The One That I Want" is officially over. Max and Laura won (YAY!!!)

(more pictures and info HERE )

The show opens on Broadway Sunday August 19th. Preview preformances start in July. I already told kevin I want to go. Plus I love NYC and haven't been there in years. Who knows, maybe we can catch a mets game while we're there too.

2. Remember that kid that pitched that team in the little league world series to victory and then they found out he was too old? Well he's playing baseball again and I'm so happy for him. Stupid adults advising him to lie and as a result he lost his dreams. What? You aren't familiar with this story? check it out

4. I was reading thru some blogs listed in the top 10 of myspace and I found this one. It made me weepy, i warn you. And I don't even have kids.

5. I love online avatar based chatting sites. I've been on gaiaonline for awhile now, but recently joined 3 more (within 2 days of each other...no...i'm not addicted) menewsha, zantarni, and halcyontears. And I'm loving them. I forgot how much fun it is to chat with people online. (altho right now the only one I'll get any credit for if you join thru those links is zantarni...oh well ... I can earn my own gold). These are my avis:

yes I freely admit I'm a loser

6. Have you seen this awesome cat that can say it's own name? SO CUTE!!!!

7. and speaking of animals ... they're making paper out of panda poop (it's high in fiber cuz of the bamboo they eat) ... ummm ... I'm all for this whole being green trend (in moderation) but EWWWWWWW!!!!

8. I think I'm gonna have to move to England ... Anyone want to come with me? (jayson? Joel?)

9. Sanjaya is just fucking with us now. I mean seriously!!!

I know we all know about that wonderful website voteforthe worst.com and I think Sanjaya does too and he's embracing it.

and did you see this pathetic girl? The way things are going she'll starve herself to death before Sanjaya gets voted off.

10. And speaking of American Idol, I think the only reason Chris Sligh got some horrid reviews from the judges was the fact that he made a shout out to VFTW when Ryan was interviewing him after his song last week. (he said "hi dave!" while Ryan was giving the number to call ... they posted on the VFTW message boards a request for him to say that if he was reading...problem is I think Simon, randy and Paula read them too)

I also think nos-phil-atu (as they call him on VFTW) will be safe again this week. DAMMIT! HE JUST WON'T DIE!

And Blake is crazy sexy geeky cool! He sounds like Morrissey imho. I'm loving him more and more and his rendition of the Cure's "Love Song" last night was dreamy!

And lastly seriously WTF kind of theme was this week anyway? Officially it was "artists that inspired Gwen Stefani" ... last night I told my A.I. partner in crime that it musta been "songs on Gwen's Ipod" week. Either way it was LAME LAME LAME!!!!

11. My sister showed me this shirt.... I want one

12. I recently found this site called JYTEwhere you can make statements and people vote on them and...well just check it out...it's a real time waster.

13. anybody want a cat?

14. I wanna look this good at 43!!! I'm sure Phoebe Cates has sold her soul to the devil or something. I'd hate her but she's too damn cute!

15. Bertuzzi is playing. I know, I know...his winged wheel debut was last week, but I've been lazy. We lost in the debut game (which i'm sure Shannon was happy about) and then lost to the Blues (which I'm sure made most of the people Chicken lives with happy) but we broke our losing streak against the Anaheim (mighty) Ducks a couple nights ago. I'm not worried.

And I know some people have a hard time getting behind us having Bertuzzi because of the Steve Moore incident, but as I've said before, he's much more than that. I have been a Bertuzzi fan for years and I'm glad he's with us. He doesn't even have to fight (Markov seems to like that role) but just his presence on the ice is enough. Plus I have a soft spot in my heart for bruisers (*sigh* Joey Kocur *sigh*)

I think I'll stop at 15 for now...but there's so much more in my head!

And in case you are wondering, the latest update my Papa is stable and is alert and aware. He's been pretty drugged up tho. thanks again for all your support.

TODD (The Wing) BERTUZZI

Bertuzzi debuts with extra effort
Former foe says he feels excited

Todd Bertuzzi was in the house. Just don't expect him to be at Chris Chelios' house anytime soon.

Chelios and Bertuzzi have had a number of run-ins over the years -- Chelios once called him fat -- but the eldest Wing welcomed the newest Wing on Thursday as Bertuzzi took the ice at Joe Louis Arena for the first time.

And if the two don't pal around in Detroit, it won't be because of any lingering animosity.

"Before, I was on my own," Chelios said. "It was easy to hang around with the guys. Now with four kids, it's a big difference.

"Todd's not going to get any rest coming over to my house for dinner. It's hectic."

Bertuzzi, who will wear No. 44, practiced for the first time Thursday as a Red Wing and stayed out for the entire time, which surprised the coaches. Bertuzzi, who has played in only seven games this season because of a back injury, is probably two or three weeks away from his debut with the Wings.

"I knew he was going to go on the ice, but I thought he was going to be out there for a few minutes and gone," coach Mike Babcock said. "Surprised he hung around and was involved in some of the drills you can get bumped in.

"I mentioned to him before, you don't have to impress us today. That's not what you're here for. You impressed us already -- that's why you're here."

Bertuzzi said it "felt great" to be on the ice at the Joe, skating with his new teammates.

"It's nice to come in and get a good skate in and meet the guys," he said. "I'm excited.

"I'm hoping to come in and just help fill a different void and different look for the team."

Bertuzzi knew that in his first face-to-face meeting with Detroit media he would be asked about the incident in 2004, when he severely injured Colorado Avalanche forward Steve Moore.

"The only people who talk about and discuss it is usually media and all that," Bertuzzi said as he stood at his new locker. "You know, I got to respect that you guys have a job to do, and I understand it."

Bertuzzi said the incident has nothing to do with him playing in Detroit. Asked if he thought about the incident every day, he said: "No. No. There's a lot of guys who live in glass houses, too.

"I'm the same as everyone else," Bertuzzi said. "I just got issues that will take care of themselves. Like I said, it's not for Detroit to deal with. It's for me to deal with. It has no bearing on anything right now with me playing here."

Chelios, who may be booed in visiting arenas more than any other NHL player, said Bertuzzi will be accepted. "As soon as he gets healthy, it's going to be exciting for our fans and our team to see him play for us," Chelios said.

Bertuzzi is expected to be an intimidating force, but Babcock said that doesn't mean a guy who will start fights at stoppages in play.

"It's a guy who plays," Babcock said. "A guy who can eat up minutes and a guy who can play in situations for you and a guy that's going to be a threat to score."

Bertuzzi hasn't set a date for his return but expects to play the way he has in the past when he returns. "I can't be coming back and tiptoeing around, being afraid something might happen," he said. "The main thing here is get 100%, get my back strong enough so I can go out and play the way I know how to play."

TODD FRIGGING BERTUZZI!!! (and other Detroit sports stuff)

It wasn't until late last night when i heard the news that we signed Todd Bertuzzi. TODD FRIGGING BERTUZZI!!! I thought someone was pulling a fast one on me. I *love* Todd Bertuzzi! Have since way before the "Steve Moore" incident. I thought the NHL gave him a bum deal.I'm not saying I agree with what he did, but how is that different from what Darren McCarty did to Claude Lemieux after his brutal attack on Kris Draper. OR the attack itself on Drapes. I don't recall the NHL taking legal action the way they did on Bertuzzi. Perhaps I'm glossing over that in my mind. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, he's a Red Wing now and surely destined to be one of my favorites once he gets on the ice. They're saying sometime in late March. Which is perfect. Just in time for the final stretch before the playoffs. How nice it will be to see a man like Todd Bertuzzi playing with a winged wheel on his chest.

I'm not saying our team isn't strong, but our defense will only get better when he gets on the ice. He's an enforcer who can score. We haven't had one of those since probably Konstantinov (imho). It's something that's been sorely missed.

Another acquisition was Kyle Calder from Philly, with which we lost Jason Williams to Chicago. I was a little sad about that one. I liked Jason Williams...until I saw the game last night. You know the one....where Calder kicked it like a seasoned Wing and got TWO points in his first game as a Wing with a goal and an assist! WAAAHOOO!!! Things are looking good for us as we get near the end of the season!

And of course lets not forget about our Tigers!!! They got their 2nd win in Spring Training (first win over a MLB ball team) against the Mets today winning 5-4. I'm a diehard Mets fan, so this is a little bittersweet for me. They are the only other MLB team I've seen in their own stadium (Shea Stadium back in 1991) and it was spectacular. But one has to always root for the hometeam. so YAY TIGERS!!!

I'm looking forward to maybe getting to a couple games this year at Comerica Park and continuing my renewed love affair with my Detroit Tigers.

Nothing on the Detroit Lions front. They look like their not gonna even try to rebuild this year. I will still root for them, of course. I love them no matter what they do. Kinda like that black sheep brother/sister you have. You don't always agree withtheir life choices and wish they could get out of the situations they're in, but they're part of your heart no matter what.

Pistons big news came the other day when Ben Wallace came back into town and was booed big time by the fans. No surprise there really. We still boo Sergei Federov when he skates at the Joe. Detroit fans have a long memory and we are bitter when someone we love leaves us for someone else. I still don't completely forgive Barry Sanders.

So there you have it.
